Each one of us have felt caged at some point in our lives, this particular painting portrays that feeling for me. I've always had these so called wings but whenever I tried to spread them I felt trapped by my close ones and family because something new or different means out of ordinary and bad for those who have already lived a life and have limited spiritual sight. The hands symbolise a cage - it doesn't harm, but also limits your movement. The bird is a symbol of freedom, energy and youth. 

Ask yourself what could happen if this painting comes alive? At first you might think that the hands are going to clap together and the bird is going to die, but what if... What if that bird is so quick to move that before those hands even flinch the sparrow can simply fly away to it's bright freedom and future leaving the human behind and never looking back. This painting is just a captured moment and the name "Captive" might bear a completely different meaning if you put a question mark at the end of the title.
